Busy Race Week for T Road Street Stocks and Warriors

Power Shift Junkyard WarriorsStock car drivers in the Allen Lumber Street Stock and Power Shift Online Junkyard Warrior divisions at Barre’s Thunder Road have a busy weekend of racing ahead of them.  Each class will compete in two events in just four days’ time, beginning on Thursday evening, June 24 at 6:30pm, at the Fisher/Federated Auto Parts Trophy Dash, and closing with special long-distance races during the 24th Annual M&M Beverage Enduro event on Sunday, July 27 at 6:00pm.

Veteran driver Lloyd Blakely of Graniteville leads the Street Stock division following last week’s Times Argus Mid-Season Championship by 45 points over Plainfield youngster Jason Corliss, 577-532.  Blakely has posted top-ten finishes in eight of his nine starts this season, including a runner-up effort on Charter Communications Night two weeks ago.  Corliss earned his second career victory at the CARQUEST VT Governor’s Cup event in June, and has five other top-ten finishes to his credit.

Tommy “Thunder” Smith of Williamstown vaulted from 10th to third place in standings with a victory in the double-point mid-season event last Thursday; he has 516 points.  Gary Mullen of Tunbridge sits fourth at 514 points while top rookie Mike MacAskill of Williamstown ranks fifth with 510 points.

Wolcott racer Jamie Davis saw his comfortable lead shrink dramatically in the Junkyard Warrior class after Graniteville’s Travis Hull took his second win of the year at the Times Argus Mid-Season Championship.  Davis’

lead over Hull shrank from 43 points down to just 15 markers, 725-710.  Both drivers have two wins and six top- five finishes on the year.  Waterbury’s Neal Foster sits third with his infamous “Tetanus Mobile” car at 673 points.  Donny Yates of North Montpelier (606) and Williamstown newcomer Lance Donald (601) complete the top five point drivers.

Allen Lumber Street StockThe Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Power Shift Online Junkyard Warriors will join the Thunder Road Late Model and Tiger Sportsman divisions on Fisher/Federated Auto Parts Night on Thursday, July 24 at 6:30pm.  Eric Williams of Hyde Park and Craig Bushey of Cambridge lead the two Thunder Road premier divisions, respectively.

The Streets and Warriors will be part of the M&M Beverage Enduro 200 card on Sunday, July 27 at 6:00pm.  The Enduro 200 is a no-holds-barred survival event for amateur racers driving virtually street-legal automobiles.  The top prize is $2,000.  Rules and entry blanks are still available at the Thunder Road office on 7 Stowe Street in Waterbury, VT, or by calling (802) 244-6963.
