Casella Waste Management Night

Well we are getting right down to the last few Thunder Road races. It’s one of the saddest times of the year for me since I love racing so much. Winter will be long without the excitement but it just makes me anticipate for next year even more! Sunday’s race proved that the ACT Late Models are in it for the Championship.  As it stands now Eric Williams is still leading Chris Michaud by 15 points with only 3 Points races left. This Thursday we will get to enjoy a Double Feature Late Model night. The Late Models will complete their 50 Lap feature from the rained out Calkins Portables night. All drivers racing for the Championship will need to stay clean the first race to avoid any unfortunate mistakes that could cost them their title.

The Power Shift Junk Yard Warriors raced their Double Feature night on Sunday and our driver, the #30 of Michael Gay lead many laps until he was chopped from behind which caused him to drop a gear and fall behind. He also is still recovering from a broken shoulder bone resulting from a previous wreck at the track. It was #57, Mark Lafleche that took the win. In the Warriors Main Feature of the night, Mike Gay came back from the disappointment of the first feature to take the win. He was followed by #66- Travis Hull and #24- Justin Gay. This was Mike’s first time Win at Thunder Road!

The Napa Flying Tigers had an exciting night ahead of them also with a 100 Lap main event Feature.  30 drivers qualified for this 100 lap event and everyone wanted a piece of the action! As rough as the Tigers can be, there were little Cautions and the race was much quicker than expected. Pete Ainsworth(80) held on to the lead position finishing in 1st. However, a Post-Race Technical Inspection caused him to fail and lose his place to Shawn Sicard(92). Shawn had a great run starting back in 21st and making his way up nearly the entire pack. Sicard was followed by Lance Allen(18) and Dave Finck(37).

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks had a season full of first time division winners this year. Sunday night’s race added another to the list after the 32 of Erik Steel battled the 92 of Josh Lacourse for half of the race. He then broke away and took the lead for the rest of the race. Gary Bashaw(92) and David Allen(11) also snuck by Lacourse for 2nd and 3rd.

Now for everyone’s favorites and definitely mine, the ACT Late models. Coming into the race, Hyde Park’s Eric Williams had just 18 Points on past Champion Michaud and left the night with a mere 15. Williams is looking for his FIRST Track Champion title and has raced one of his best years at the track. The 50 Lap feature for the big guys was intense and got quite dirty for some of the racers. Michaud especially, trying for his 5th Championship title even started getting into Phil Scott a few times throughout the race. Rookie Matt White claimed his 2nd win of the year as a Late Model driver after battling with Brooks Clark for the lead. Donahue also looking for the championship had an unfortunate flat tire about halfway through causing him to drop back to 7th in points. Point leaders Michaud and Williams finished 4th and 5th. The boys better be careful though as they come into Thursday night Double Feature night. Any wrong move in the first Feature could cause them to lose their chance at Championship. Should be one of the most exciting nights Thunder Road has seen in a while. Hope to see you all on the high bank for a great night!!
