Well race fans not sure how we always manage to get so lucky but once again the rain held off and we got in a full night of racing. After last week we all knew we would be in for a good race, and we sure got one.
We started the night with 10 qualifying laps taking the top 6 cars to the feature for the Allen Lumber Street Stocks. Heat #1 left us with #92 Gary Bashaw, #30 Lloyd Blakely, and #20 David Greensilt as our top 3. Heat #2 gave us a bit more excitement with #11 David Allen duming #75 "Super" Joe Fecteau on lap 2 sending both drivers to the rear. In the end #22 Tommy Smith, #32 Erik Steel and #40 Shawn Powell were the top 3 finishers. Heat #3 didn't leave us with any crazy moves or major wrecks, but it did leave us with #82 Joshua Lacourse (1st time checkered flag), #38 Greg Adams, and #3 Michael MacAskill on the Pepsi score board. The feature left us on the edge of our seat again like the other divisions did tonight with #61 Jason Corliss taking his first checkered flag this year with a last minute pass of the #92 Gary Bashaw, and #2 Dave Lafleche coming in just behind for 3rd place.
Power Shift Junkyard Warriors gave us some fun racing as usual. The guy running in 3rd place #1 Chad Brown getting black flagged due to leaking fuel, and last week feature winner #43 Jamie Davis starting last had moved up to 2nd by lap 3 and that's where he finished up heat #1, #19 Neal Foster (1st) and #05 Donny Yeates (3rd). No flag thrown during heat #2 the Power Shift sponsored car #30 Michael Gay with his 1st checkered flag of the year, #24 Justin Gay close behind, and #04 Scott Weston took 3rd. Once again for a 2nd week in a row the Warrior feature was moved up after the Late Model feature, on lap 11 the 2 time winner #43 Jamie Davis was spin out and ended up in the infield. After some wild driving and taking corners 3 wide, #66 Travus Hull takes the checkered flag at the last second from #87 John Prentice, and #04 Scott Weston finishing in 3rd.
The Napa Flying Tigers division seems to get bigger and more competitive each week. Half way to go in heat #1 #92 Shawn Sicard takes the lead, with 2 laps to go #80 Pete Ainsworth Jr. comes up from 7th starting position to take second (trying to make up for not qualifying for the feature last week) with rookie driver #26 taking 3rd. Heat #2, #18 Lance Allen battles for the lead then jumps out ahead where he will stay and finish 1st, with a nice fight for 2nd between #94 Brendan Moodle, and #2 Josh Lovely, on lap 10 #94 Moodie takes 2nd and Lovely losing 3rd place to #58 James Hebert. Heat #3 ended with a yellow white flag when the #99 Cody Blake spun out, when the checkered flag finally flew it was #20 Chris Chambers, #55 Brian Delphi, and #10 Josh Demers crossing the line first. The 12 lap Consi left #05 Craig Bush and #41 Rick Grand battle it out for first, in the end Bushy crossed first, Grand right behind and #68 Derrick O'Donnel in 3rd. The "B" feature and final chance to qualify for the main event left the fifth starting car #48 Tom Therrien in the lead where he pulls away on lap 10, close behind was #90 Tony Rossi, and 3rd was #1 Scott Coburn. The feature was another exciting one with #94 Brendan Moodie moving up from 7th starting position to take the checkered at the end away from the #2 Josh Lovely due to lapped traffic. Lovely led most of the race, coming in 3rd was #18 Lance Allen.
Now to the 100 lap Governors Cup and what an exciting one it was. Heat #1 left us with #6 Cris Michaud, #85 Trampas Demers, and #7 Eric Williams in the top 3. #42 Matt White, #86 Dennis Demers, and #25 David Whitcomb finished off at the top in heat #2. Veteran #75 Pete Fecteau took the checkered in heat #3 with rookie #1 Tony Andrews 2nd and #00 Mike Andrews right behind. Not running a semi tonight we moved right on to the feature. The yellow flag was thrown twice before 1 lap was even complete, the first was when #1 Tony Andrews tried to go 3 wide in turn 3, causing the whole outside row to go up over the bank to avoid the mess. Putting the cars back in order giving drivers back their spots if they lost any trying to avoid getting wrecked, #31 Shawn Fleury rear ended #14 Phil Scott, and the #00 was left with no steering. So we are going to try it again, no such luck under caution again still with no laps complete. Finally we get under green and start racing, on lap 24 the guys to watch #6 and #7 were in 1st and 2nd place with #1 Andrews running in 3rd. On lap 37 the yellow is out again with #16 Joey Becker over the bank in turn 2. On lap 58 Williams makes his move and takes the lead from Michaud with a nice battle still going on between the two drivers. On lap 67 Michaud tries to run the outside and takes the lead back where he will stay to finally after 2 years finish ahead of Williams, who followed close behind taking 2nd #26 John Donahue taking 3rd.
Congratulations to all the winners this week, it was another exciting night at Thunder Road and Bud Hill !!!
